Commissioning over 25 Vertexes

In this article we will take a look on how to prepare to a commissioning of a big site - which has over 25 Vertexes.
Before commissioning a big site like this we recomend reading these articles:

Why can’t we commission more then 25 Vertexes at once?

Netconfig can send out messages that containes information for max of 25 Vertexes.

There are two ways to commission a big site, with many Vertexes:

  • using LAN - this option is always available, but it will include more footwork.

  • using VLAN - this option is available if your network provider can set up seperate networks for you.

LAN network

When working with a LAN network the 25 Vertex while using netconfig restriction will mean that your site will need to be commissioned in sections. Let’s take a look at an example:

This site has a very big first and second floor which will each have a cluster containing 25 Vertexes and a smaller third floor with a Cluster containing 20 Vertexes.

To commission this site you will have to make sure that only one floor at a time has Vertexes connected to the network.

So first you connect all Vertexes on the first floor to the network and use netconfig. Now you will have to unplug them from the network.

Work in this loop until you have finished commisioning all floors.

VLAN network

To commission your site using VLAN networks ask your network provider to create seperate VLAN networks for different sections of the site you are commissioning. Each VLAN network will need to have minimal 26 addresses for 25 Vertexes and your device.

Let’s take a look how commissioning of the same building as before will look like using VLAN networks.

Each floor in this building will need a seperate VLAN network. Once they are up you can connect all the Vertexes to the network.

When you will be using netconfig using different VLAN networks you will be able to use netconfig on different Vertexes.
