3. Vertex software updating

Make sure that you've completed the previous step: How to get into Vertex UI?

Downgrading system is not recommended. Uploading the older firmware packages might cause failures such as:

  • Losing configuration data

  • Changing logic of operation (NodeRED flows)

  • Bricking the application controller

Deppending on what software version you are on currently and software version you want to update to choose the drop down box and folow instructions.
Before you start updating make sure you have a current backup of your system, if not go to System backup - creating

Instructions

When updating between 3.1.30 3.1.38:

  1. Go to the Settings section. Log in as an administrator. The default credentials are:
    login: admin
    password: admin1234

  2. Check the software version in the Vertex cluster tab and compare to the current version here Vertex release notes.

  3. Download the software version you need. Remeber this way of updating is reccomended for software versions from 3.1.30-3.1.36 to 3.1.33-3.1.38.

  4. Uplad Vertex firmware and select Update Vertex. Wait for the Vertex to restart - this can take a few minutes.

  5. We reccomend you reload the page and check to see if the software matches the file you upladed.

When updating Vertex from 3.1.30-3.1.38 to 4.1.1 make sure to use 8080 port. Using the updater in UI, both regular or multiupdater can cause failure of Vertex.

Downgrading from version 4.1.1 is stricktly forbiden.

  1. Go to the Settings section. Log in as an administrator. The default credentials are:

    password: admin1234

  2. Check the software version in the Vertex cluster tab and compare to the current version here Vertex release notes.

  3. Download the software version you need. Remeber this way of updating is reccomended for software versions from 3.1.30-3.1.38 to 4.1.1.

  4. Go to port http://vertex_ip_address:8080
    Choose software version and wait for it to upload. You will see a bar indicationg proggress and later a spinning indicator when update installs (you can expect this to happen twice). the whole proccess will take up to 20 minutes. Do not close this tab until screen comes back to normal.

  5. Back in the UI check to see if the software matches the file you uploaded.

Starting from version 4.1.1 the multiupdater is an official way of updating Vertex software. It allows you to update more then one device at a time.

  1. Go to the Settings section. Log in as an administrator. The default credentials are:
    login: admin
    password: admin1234

  2. Check the software version in the Vertex cluster tab and compare to the current version here Vertex release notes.

  3. Download the software version you need.

  4. Select the Vertexes you want to update and upload the software file. Click update Vertex. Wait for the Vertex to restart - this can take a few minutes.

  1. We reccomend you reload the page and check to see if the software matches the file you upladed.

Here, we used default credentials to log in as administrator. We advise you to change the password for security.
