Discovering an Access Point MAC Address

This is useful when you are trying to establish the Mac Address of a ACCESS POINT’s Wi-Fi adapter to set up rules on your network’s router or firewall.

These are instructions for a Samsung Android phone. Other phones may vary.

Create a Hotspot

Settings > Hotspot and Tethering,

  • SSID ACCESS POINT-Router

  • Password This changes from time-to-time, and from ACCESS POINT to ACCESS POINT. Please check with Wireless Radio Staff

  1. Stand near the ACCESS POINT and wait for the ACCESS POINT to connect to your phone’s hotspot. When it connects, the ACCESS POINT will appear on your phone in the list of Connected Devices

  2. Click on “Collator xxxxxx” in the list of Connected Devices

  3. You will now see a list of information including:-

  • IP Address

  • Mac Address

  • Connection Time and Duration

If you need more information about the ACCESS POINT’s hardware or network settings then:

  1. Connect the ACCESS POINT to your hotspot as above.

  2. Note down the ACCESS POINT’s serial number, typically a 6-digit number on a label on the outside of the ACCESS POINT.

  3. Contact LMS Technical Support who will be able to connect to the ACCESS POINT (using the serial number that you provide) and examine the settings.
