Best practises setting up Glamox Connect

Here are some tips and best practises to make the integration of your local installation and Glamox Connect as easy as possible.

In general, the golden rule is that you should always commission and set up the local installation before connecting to Glamox Connect.

Glamox Connect has a feature called automatic discovery, meaning that once you have adopted a gateway from local system into Glamox Connect, it will discover the devices and add them to the system.
If you then move, remove or replace devices later on you might end up with faults in Connect.

A device in Glamox Connect is a virtual representation of a physical device in your local installation. Local addressing (like DALI short addresses) are only a location reference.

So replacing Device A with Device B after being added to Connect, will result in Device A being missing and Device B being a new device, regardless if they are on same physical location or same address (like DALI short address)

When commissioning a local system, that will be later integrated with Connect, make sure that you can identify devices using information gathered while commissioning the local system.

  • If the local system allows you to name devices, it is recommended to name them in a unique manner.

  • If the local system doesn’t use named devices note the information that is uique for identifying the device.

Ethernet2DALI

Before connecting to Glamox Connect make sure that the system is commissioned, for more information go to E2D Knowledgebase -> Home

Make sure that you set up clusters and networks for all E2D gateways before adopting Ethernet2Dali gateways to Connect.

While commissioning make sure to name devices uniquely as device names will be included when connecting to Glamox Connect. The name should straightforward indicate the location and identify the devices.

DALI Complete

When setting up DALI Complete there is no option to name devices.

When identifying devices on DALI Complete it is recommended to note down information systematically as you proceed. We recomend also making drawings of exact locations of devices. Note down the following information for each device in a way that you will understand the physical location when/if you want to name and place devices in Connect:

  • Gateway

  • Line

  • Short address

When adopted to Connect you can use the Device naming tool to set a default name.

You can use placeholders to set the key information as part of the names. Like in this example we can either use our local information (Line 1) to give a name (Gateway is in “Floor 2” and the line covers “Wing 2”) or we can just use the technical IDs as in example for Line 2

Wireless Zigbee

Similar to DALI Complete there is no device naming in Wireless Zigbee. The unique ID used by Connect is the Zigbee mac address (NOTE: The BLE mac address is different).

When commissioning, note down the location of the device using the Zigbee mac address. If sticker is still present on the physical device you can use this sticker on a floor plan drawing to quickly save this information.

After adopting to Connect you can use the “Device naming” tool to name all devices with Gateway and Zigbee mac address.
