(Classic) Installation guidelines
Both the DALI and LAN installation should be done according to the design. The installation must be done in accordance with the best practices for electrical work. The type and protection class of the connected devices must be conform with regulations.
DALI installation
DALI bus cable parameters
Use copper conductors with a minimum cross-section of 1.5 mm2. Connect the communication buses to the electrical switchgear, in which the VERTEX controllers will be installed, as well as to all actuators (luminaires, buttons and sensors).
DALI bus length
The maximum length of the DALI wiring with a 1.5 mm2 cross-section is 300 m. If that distance is
exceeded or if wiring with an incorrect cross-section is used, the system may not work correctly.
See how to double this distance.
The maximum communication bus length depending on the wire cross-section, according to the DALI standard:
Length | Minimum wire cross-section |
---|---|
up to 100 m | 0.5 mm2 |
100-150 m | 0.75 mm2 |
150-300 m | 1.5 mm2 |
Electrical conditions for the DALI bus
The correct voltage range for the DALI bus:
9.5 VDC-22.5 VDC, typical: 16 VDC
Continuous DALI bus current on the DALI bus:
230 mA* for VERTEX ApC
*180 mA for VERTEX ApC 2.0
Device limits on the DALI bus
Remember about the three basic limitations that are important for the correct operation of the Ethernet2DALI system:
DALI bus topologies
Use only the permitted DALI bus topologies.
LAN network installation
The structural network must be installed in accordance with the best practices for electrical work. Use F-UTP category 5e cables. Install the RJ-45 on the cable end and prepare for the connection of network devices. The maximum distance between the network devices is 100 m.
After completing the structural cabling, measurements must be performed to verify conformity with ISO 1181 or EN 50173.
