Wireless Zigbee - Reset gateway

If you for some reason need to reset the Zigbee gateway locally (re-add to group, move group). Glamox Connect needs to know about this becuase of a secure connection between the gateway and the Glamox Connects' Access Point (AP).

How does it work?

At first connection to gateway from the AP, i.e. after adopt, the AP and the gateway performs a hand-shake. This means that the two components agree on the connection and exchanges security information. Both the AP and GW keeps this information to use every time they communicate.

If the gateway is reset locally, the Connect AP does not know about this. The gateway will, as part of the reset, throw away it’s “key” and forget about the connection with the AP. The AP on the other hand still thinks everything is ok and keeps trying. Naturally the gateway refuses the connection as it has no knowledge of such an agreed connection anymore.

Step by step instructions

It is no problem to reset the gateway locally. You can do this in two ways:

  • using the reset button inside the gateway

  • using the gateway software - if you have admin access

We recommend you do what is needed on the gateway first and then proceed to fix the connection to Glamox Connect. After the gateway is reset the connection will be lost and you will eventually get an fault in Glamox Connect.

On the Glamox Connect page open the Maintenance tab. The faulty gateway will be marked. You will be provided with an option to repair the connection. Click on “Repair connection”[1]. Allow some time for the system to reconnect and close the fault. When the fault closes the system will be healthy and connection restored.

Things to think about

If the gateway is reset and added back to the local system for same group and/or for the same devices you will not notice any difference in Glamox Connect. The connection will just be re-established and your devices will start to update again.

If you repurpose the gateway and have a different set of devices, you will get faults in Connect for the devices that are now missing. The devices in Glamox Connect are representation of devices on a gateway.
Example:

  • You have 1 device “A” on the gateway and in Connect

  • You reset the gateway

  • You add the gateway to a different group with 1 device “B”

In this case you will get a new device “B” in Glamox Connect.

Device “A” will get a fault in Glamox Connect saying it is missing in local system. This device then needs to be replace or removed.
