Adding objects
Overview
Other types of objects can be added from the object menu.
Observers
Add an observer by clicking the
button. Observers are used to determine the Unified Glare Rating (UGR) in key locations.
Paneled ceiling
You can add a paneled ceiling by clicking the
button.
Plain text
Plain text can be inserted by clicking the
icon. Text can be positioned and rotated as desired.
3D Objects
Adding 3D objects
Complex 3D Objects can be loaded by choosing "Load object from database" from the
menu.
After selecting the desired category a list of preview images will show the available objects from that category:
To add the object to the room simply double click the icon.
Creating 3D objects
You can also create and categorize your own 3D objects. There are two ways to do this:
By choosing the option "Create new object from file" you can load drawings in the AutoCAD DWG or DXF format.
Furniture models are often freely available for download in various formats from the manufacturers web site.Grouped objects can be saved directly by choosing the "Save object to database" option.
You can also save objects which contains luminaires and sensors.
For both options the following save dialogue will be shown:
First you must choose a category to save to. Standard categories cannot be selected, so create one by clicking the
button.
Next, ensure that the object is rotated and aligned correctly in the window, as this will be used for the object preview icon.
When you are done, click OK to save the object. If you created an object from an external drawing it will be added to the room as well.
Boxes and box groups
The box and box group features have been retained from earlier versions of OptiWin:
Boxes can be added by accessing the
menu. You can choose from a set of basic shapes like box, sphere, cylinder and wedge.

Box groups can be loaded from the
menu, by clicking the button "Load box group" in the object loading window.
Note: From version 2010.12 you cannot save box groups any more. If you want to save a box group you must first split and regroup it.
Polygon objects
Press
to start creation of a polygon object. Place corner points in the room, and finish with
. Then, adjust height as necessary.

It is possible to create a Calculation plane using the shape of a completed polygon object. To do this, select a Polygon object, right-click to bring up the Context menu, and select "Convert to calculation plane".
