Project

Overview

In OptiWin, all rooms must be created within a Project.

This section describes how to create and manage such projects:

The project main screen

Create new project

Creating a new project

To create a new project, click the "New Project" button from the top button bar:

All the fields on the right side will now be blank, and the "Description" field ready for input:

The "Description" field is normally used for the project name. As an example, this could be "Glamox Office".

The "No" field can be useful if you have a project code, or a building floor (if you are separating the floors into several projects).

Selecting a "Customer" name will automatically fill in the address fields.

The field "Notes" can be used to add extra information, and will not be used in reports.

"Position labeling profile" is explained in further detail under Position Labeling.

"Energy calculation" filters the categories available in energy evaluation. Overrides the setting in Setup.

When you are done adding project information, click the "Save" button from the top menu bar:

Note: none of the input fields are required as the project is automatically given a unique ID and sequence code.

Search for project

Simple search

Simple searches can be done directly from the project list. Simply type the desired search query into the top row:

Use the * (star) character for wildcards. Press the

button to clear the search for that column.

Export/import project

See the Data Exchange chapter for information about exporting and importing projects.

Project reports

See the Project report chapter for information about this topic.

Position Labeling

You can easily set up position labeling for a project by choosing one of the predefined profiles from the drop-down menu:

When a profile has been selected you will be asked if you want to update the position labeling for this project.

If you choose to do this, one of the following operations will be done:

  • If you selected a profile on a project which previously didn't have a labeling profile, position labels will be added to all luminaires.

  • If the project already had a profile configured and you selected another profile, the existing labels will be updated.

  • If the project already had a profile and you selected "None", the existing labels will be removed

Managing position labels

When a project has a profile configured, the following operations will be available in both the project and the room window:

Remove existing labels

Use this function to remove position labeling from all luminaires in the entire project. Note that the panel/circuit setup for each luminaire will not be removed.

Add new labels

This can be used to add labels to all unlabeled luminaires. Luminaires which already has been labeled will not be modified.

Update existing labels

This will rewrite the labels for all luminaires which has already been labeled, and can be used to modify the labeling system for an entire project.

Note: the automatic labeling functionality cannot be used for labeling systems which require a panel and/or circuit setup.

Creating a profile

To create a new or modify an existing profile, press the button

in the Project window. The following dialogue will be shown:

No/Description/Notes

These are generic information fields which can be used to describe the labeling system.

Labeling type

This option determines how new serial numbers will be generated:

  • "Unique position label for each luminaire" - every single luminaire instance added to a room will get a unique label.

  • "Unique position label for each luminaire type" - all different luminaire/gear types will get its own label.

  • "Unique position label for each luminaire combination" - all unique luminaire setups will get a unique label.

Formatting string

This field determines how each position label will be formatted. The labeling string can be configured by either writing it manually or using the grid setup.

The formatting string consists of fixed values and free text, which can be combined in any desired order. The formatting determines how the field will appear in the label.

For numeric fields (e.g the counter) the format can describe a minimum number of digits by adding "0" as many times as desired. "000" will produce (001, 002, 003, ..).

For other fields like emergency light the format field describes the text string that will be appended if the luminaire is an emergency luminaire.

Note: Sub-category fields like "Route light" and "LED" will only be used if the luminaire has the emergency light flag set.

Combination

If the combination labeling type is selected these fields will determine what luminaire properties which will be taken into account when generating unique labels.

Panel/circuit

This can be used to add or remove panels and circuits if any of these has been included in the position labeling string.

Profile types

There are three kinds of profile types; standard, user and project, of which the first two are template profiles:

  • Standard templates are pre-configured templates which will be bundled with database upgrade operations. These profiles cannot be modified or deleted.

  • User templates is what you use to store your most common position labeling profiles, and can be created, modified and deleted by any user.
To create a user profile, simply create a new or copy an existing profile. Both project profiles and standard templates will become user templates when copied.

  • Project profiles are created automatically when you select a template in the project window and save your project.
The project profile will be created as a copy of the template, and can be modified as long as no labeling has been created for that profile.

Note that project profiles are deleted automatically when it is no longer used by a project.

Labeling luminaires or luminaire groups

See Position Labeling in the Luminaire positioning category.

Luminaire list

The luminaire list displays all luminaries used in the current project.

The list also contains the option to change all luminaires of a specific type to a different luminaire.

To replace luminaires, press the new luminaire button. This will bring up the luminaire search.
From here you can select a new luminaire.

Do this for all luminaire types you wish to replace, then click "Ok" to replace them. Clicking "Exit" will close the luminaire list without changing luminaires.
