Here are some tips and best practises to make the integration of your local installation and setup of Glamox Connect as easy as possible.
In general, the golden rule is that you should always commision and set up the local installation before connecting to Glamox Connect.
Glamox Connect has automatic discovery, meaning that once you have adopted a gateway from local system into Connect, Connect will discover the devices and add them.
If you then move, remove or replace devices after this you might end up with faults in Connect.
A device in Glamox Connect is a representation of a uniqe device in local installation. Local addressing (like DALI short addresses) are only a location reference.
So replacing Device A with Device B after being added to Connect, will result in Device A being missing and Device B being a new device, regardless if they are on same physical location or same address (like DALI short address)
In general, the one thing that one need to pay attention to when commissioning the local system to prepare for Connect integration, is to make sure that you can easily identify the devices from the information you gather while commissioning locally.
For systems where you can name your devices it is recommended to name those uniquely. You will then be able to easily identify the devices in Connect.
For systems not using named devices it is important to note what information is uniquely identifying the device and note that down, either on a drawing or in a different document of your choice.
Ethernet2DALI
Make sure that you set up the clustering and network set up for all E2D gateways before adopting Ethernet2Dali gateways to Connect.
To easily identify devices in Connect Cloud after connecting, make sure that you add or note down information while doing local commissioning. You have two options:
Naming devices uniquely as device names will be included when connecting to Connect
Note down ID and location of device i.e. on a drawing or similar
DALI Complete
When setting up DALI Complete there is no option to name devices.
When identifying devices on DALI Complete it is recommended to note down information systematically as you proceed.
Note down the following information for each device in a way that you will understand the physical location when/if you want to name and place devices in Connect:
Gateway
Line
Short address
When adopted to Connect you can use the Device naming tool to set a default name.
You can use placeholders to set the key information as part of the names. Like in this example we can either use our local information (Line 1) to give a name (Gateway is in “Floor 2” and the line covers “Wing 2”) or we can just use the technical IDs as in example for Line 2
Wireless Zigbee
Similar to DALI Complete there is no device naming in Wireless Zigbee.
The unique ID used by Connect is the Zigbee mac address (NOTE: The BLE mac address is different).
When commisioning, note down the location of the device using the Zigbee mac address.
If sticker is still present on the physical device you can use this sticker on a floorplan drawing or similar to quickly save this information.
After adopting to Connect you can use the “Device naming” tool to name all devices with Gateway and Zigbee mac address.
Wireless Radio
Commission Wireless Radio as usual, placing devices on the drawing. The serial will be the unique identifier in Connect as well and can be found there.
When adopting the Wireless Radio gateway to Connect you will also be prompted to provide the site post code. This will enable the feature to import Drawings and device positioning from Wireless Radio to Glamox Connect.
Go to Settings → Import to import your drawings and device location directly into Glamox Connect.
