Relay commissioning

How to use it in the LMS design?

When using the relay in a project, keep in mind the typical Ethernet-to-DALI limitations.

Relays can be used in various scenarios to extend the flexibility and functionality of a lighting control system. Typical applications include:

  • Switching non-dimmable luminaires – turning on and off luminaires that do not support dimming.

  • Controlling other loads – switching devices such as ventilation units, power sockets, or other equipment, provided they are within the relay’s load capacity.

  • Signal forwarding – passing signals to systems that do not support advanced communication methods via data cabling.

  • Emergency lighting fault signalling – triggering a fault signal from emergency (EM) luminaires. If an EM light fails, the relay activates and sends a warning to an external system, often a Building Management System (BMS).

  • External lighting control – switching outdoor luminaires on and off based on an astronomical clock (sunrise/sunset times) via a scheduler (see Relay commissioning).
