Best practices for setting up Glamox Connect

These tips and best practices simplify integrating your local installation into Glamox Connect.

Always commission and configure the local installation before connecting to Glamox Connect.

Glamox Connect features automatic discovery: after adopting a gateway from the local system, it discovers and adds devices to the system.
Moving, removing, or replacing devices later may cause faults in Connect.

A device in Glamox Connect represents a physical device in your local installation. Local addressing (e.g., DALI short addresses) serves only as a location reference.

Replacing Device A with Device B after adding Device A to Connect results in Device A missing and Device B appearing as new, even if they share the same location or address.

When commissioning a local system for later integration with Connect, ensure you can identify devices using information gathered during commissioning.

  • If the local system allows naming devices, assign unique names.

  • If devices lack names, record unique identifying information.

Ethernet2DALI

Commission the system before connecting to Glamox Connect. For details, see E2D Knowledge base -> https://glamox.atlassian.net/wiki/x/1YD4Zw.

Set up clusters and networks for all E2D gateways before adopting Ethernet2DALI gateways to Connect.

Name devices uniquely during commissioning to clearly indicate location and identity when connecting to Glamox Connect.

Wireless Radio

Commission the system before connecting to Glamox Connect. For details, see WR Knowledge base -> https://glamox.atlassian.net/wiki/x/YQAicQ

All Wireless Radio Access Points must share the same local internet connection as the LMS CONNECT Access Point, via WiFi or Ethernet.

Software requirements:

Verify floorplans and devices during commissioning. After importing into Glamox Connect, they lock and cannot be edited. To update, re-import drawings. Only site Admins can perform this.

DALI Complete

DALI Complete does not support device naming.

Systematically record device information and create drawings of exact device locations. For each device, note information that clarifies physical location for naming and placement in Connect:

  • Gateway

  • Line

  • Short address

After adoption to Connect, use the Device naming tool to set default names.

Use placeholders to incorporate key information into names. For example, local info (Line 1) can name a gateway as “Floor 2” with line covering “Wing 2,” or technical IDs as in Line 2.

Wireless Zigbee

Like DALI Complete, Wireless Zigbee lacks device naming. Connect uses the Zigbee MAC address as the unique ID (note: BLE MAC address differs).

During commissioning, record device locations using the Zigbee MAC address. If the device sticker remains, use it on floor plan drawings to save this information quickly.

After adoption to Connect, use the Device naming tool to name devices with Gateway and Zigbee MAC address.
