Glamox believes that every commercial and industrial luminaire should be automatically controlled and that the control system should be so simple that it can be used by anyone.

This simplicity means that complicated Controls Specifications are not required and that no advanced knowledge of the controls or the wiring is required by the specifier, installer or end user.

Controls Philosophy

The Controls Philosophy for the site can be agreed, or modified, at any time during the installation process. In fact, we can change settings in luminaires during the commissioning process and throughout the installation lifespan with no modifications to the wiring.

Additional features such as scene controls, online access points and other areas of the building can be added at any time.

What Should It Include?

  • Areas to be controlled

  • Luminaire presence settings by area i.e.:

    • Is the maximum on level of the luminaires to be reduced?

    • What should the luminaires dim to?

    • What is the standby level?

    • Should the luminaires turn off?

  • Are luminaires to be linked into presence groups?

    • If so, what size of group? Does this differ by area? If so, this must be stated

  • Can a drawing be provided to the engineer to show which fittings should be grouped?

  • Are there daylight sensors, either remote or integral?

    • If so, which fittings need to be linked to the daylight sensor?

  • Do the fittings need to turn off on daylight or dim to a set level?

  • Are there scene set switches? If so:

    • Which luminaires need to link to the switches?

    • What are the required scenes?

An example of how you may start to define a controls philosophy:

Car Park Bays

  • Control - luminaires to be set to 80% of their maximum and dim to 10% after 2 minutes of no activity. Luminaires will then turn off after a further 5 minutes of no activity.

  • Linking – luminaires to be linked to the fitting on either side to effectively allow groups of 3 fittings to be brought on if presence is detected on any group.

  • Daylight – there is no daylight contribution in this area and therefore no daylight sensors are installed.

  • Scenes – there are no scene sets switches in this car park

  • Emergency fittings – there are emergency fittings to be identified which are labeled on the drawing and should be manually checked on commissioning and identified as such.

Car Park Roadways

  • Control - luminaires to be set to 100% of their maximum and dim to 50% after 5 minutes of no activity. Luminaires will then remain on at 50%.

  • Linking – luminaires to be linked to all 20 fittings in the egress area to allow all fittings to be brought on if presence is detected on any group.

  • Daylight – there is no daylight contribution in this area and therefore no daylight sensors are installed.

  • Scenes – there are no scene sets switches in this car park

  • Emergency fittings – there are emergency fittings to be identified which are labeled on the drawing and should be manually checked on commissioning and identified as such.

Egress

  • Control - luminaires to be set to 80% of their maximum and dim to 10% after 2 minutes of no activity. Luminaires will then remain on at 10%.

  • Linking – luminaires to be linked to 4 fittings on either side to allow half the driving aisle to be brought on if presence is detected on any group.

  • Daylight – there is no daylight contribution in this area and therefore no daylight sensors are installed.

  • Scenes – there are no scene sets switches in this car park

  • Emergency fittings – there are emergency fittings to be identified which are labeled on the drawing and should be manually checked on commissioning and identified as such.

Lift Lobbies & Stairwells

  • Daylight – there is unobstructed daylight contribution in this area and 2 daylight sensors are installed.

  • Control – luminaires will be held off by the daylight sensors throughout the daytime period. They will then come on at 60% of their maximum and dim to 25% after 2 minutes of no activity. Luminaires will remain at 25% and never turn off throughout the nighttime period.

  • Linking –

    • the nearest 3 luminaires on the deck to be linked to the last fittings on lift lobby landings The top deck fittings will be linked in 2 groups, one for each half of the car park.

    • The stairwell fitting will, in turn, be linked to the lift lobby landing above.

    • The last luminaire before exiting the ramp on the lower floor will be linked to the first two fittings in the car park to ensure users are always entering a lit area.

  • Scenes – there are no scene sets switches in this car park

Top Deck Roof

  • Control - luminaires to be set to 100% of their maximum and dim to 50% after 5 minutes of no activity. Luminaires will then remain on at 50%.

Wireless Radio Philosophy

When designing Wireless Radio main values that this light mangment system will represent have been descided.

  • Easy commissioning
    This system is very easy to commission; after just a short training, one will know all the basics. The commissioning of this system is done through a tablet. As we launch an object, we can see how the lights change during identification. We can also use a floor plan in our tablet app and easily set parameters.

  • Scailability
    In our system, luminaires can come with integrated sensors. This means that every luminaire that has a built-in sensor can work as a standalone system. But if we have more of them, we can commission the luminaires with sensors and create a system for a room, floor, or a whole building.

  • Reliability
    The wireless radio system has found its application in industry, schools, and hospitals. Right now, we have many installations that work flawlessly in enormous buildings with thousands of luminaires and in small applications.

This system can be used in any enviornment. The original purpose of Wireless Radio where factory sites, but since it is such a great, relaiable and flexible system it has been adapted to other sectors.
